SS 304L Slip On Raised Face Flanges (SORF)

ASTM A182 F304L Slip-On Raised Face (SORF) flanges are forged stainless steel flanges designed to slide over the pipe end before welding, a straightforward installation method that keeps fabrication simple on most piping runs and reduces the precision cutting a butt-weld connection would otherwise demand. The raised face design improves gasket sealing at the joint, cutting down leakage risk in service. F304L is the low-carbon version of SS 304, capped at a maximum 0.03% carbon, which makes it particularly well suited to welding applications where heat input would otherwise sensitize the material. Chromium content runs 18-20%, delivering corrosion and oxidation resistance, while nickel at 8-12% adds toughness and ductility to the finished flange. That lower carbon content also minimizes carbide precipitation during welding, reducing the risk of intergranular corrosion at the heat-affected zone. Chemical processing, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, water treatment, and oil and gas industries all specify these flanges regularly, drawn by the corrosion resistance and ease of installation the grade delivers.

The Stainless Steel 304L Slip-on Raised Face Flanges allow pipes to slip on them, whereas raised face allows for maximum attachment. The intergranular and localized corrosion is less because the low-carbon version of the material gets less carbide precipitation. These flanges have high-temperature resistance and are operated at up to 870 degrees Celsius.
